Yes, I agree—it’s an extremely frustrating situation. Google is constantly evolving and introducing changes, many of which are designed to take traffic away from webmasters, keep it for itself, monopolize search, and push everyone toward Google Ads.
I see two possible paths:
1) Optimize your content for AI models—although how much further can we really take it when everyone already knows the basics? 🙂 In my opinion, there are no big secrets here. Keep developing your website, and your content will appear in AI-generated results. Build backlinks and increase your site’s authority. Many companies are now starting to offer ChatGPT optimization services, which is certainly interesting 🙂 Personally, I don’t believe there are any special secrets that will suddenly make your website appear prominently in AI-generated results.
I see it more as a marketing tactic—no offense 🙂 My point is that I don’t really believe you can confidently and consistently rely on AI Overviews or mentions in AI-generated answers as your main source of traffic in the same way you can target traditional search results. As an additional traffic source—absolutely. If you manage to get featured there, that’s great. But perhaps I’m wrong 🙂
2) The second path is more interesting, in my opinion. You need to find keywords within your business that AI hasn’t reached yet, along with relevant niches, subniches, and so on. These are the areas you should focus your efforts on. Will AI eventually reach these keywords as well? Yes, quite possibly. But we have to work with the situation as it stands right now.
If you’re launching a new project, always analyze the search results and check whether AI-generated answers already appear for your target keywords. I should add that AI Overviews have even reached the gambling niche. For some of the best keywords, Google already displays AI-generated answers featuring lists of top review websites in the niche.
Adapt or die—there’s no other way 🙂
