After my latest post, people started asking questions about backlinks from Telegram channels. This is a relevant topic that I have been trying to understand. I’ll explain the conclusions I reached using my own channel and my colleagues’ channels as examples. These are purely my personal observations and assumptions.
Backlinks from Telegram should work very well for SEO. In general, any of them should work, but links from authoritative channels should be even more effective. Why?
Step 1. Let’s analyze https://motozilla.com.ua/ using Ahrefs and examine its backlinks. Most incoming links come from pages with a low URL Rating: http://joxi.ru/1A57O9eUbLkJ0m. This means that the pages linking to MotoZilla have not been strengthened and are not particularly authoritative. They either have no backlinks of their own or have very few. This is a common situation—your website will probably have a similar backlink profile, so you can check it yourself. Accordingly, such a link does not pass much authority or link equity because the linking page has very little of its own. The referring website may be authoritative, but the specific page may not be, and that is perfectly normal. Keep that in mind 😏
Step 2. There are few backlinks from pages with a URL Rating between 10 and 20, and even fewer from pages with a UR of 20+. Links with a high URL Rating—or at least a rating above the 0–10 range—carry more authority and, therefore, pass more link equity. By placing a backlink on such a page, you can gain significantly more value.
Step 3. Now, open the backlink report and sort it by URL Rating to see which websites and pages the links come from and how they differ from weaker pages with a UR between 0 and 10. We can see a backlink from a Telegram channel that looks like this. It already has a URL Rating of 14, meaning it has moved beyond the 0–10 range. Not bad. Let’s continue.
Step 4. If we look at the direct URL of my channel, its metrics are excellent.
✳️ URL Rating — 20
✳️ Unique referring domains — 13
✳️ Incoming backlinks — 25
Steady backlink growth has resulted in a URL Rating of 20. The Telegram channel has backlinks from my publications on Serpstat, VC.ru, WebPromo, and other websites. Essentially, you receive an SEO backlink from a well-established page on a highly authoritative messenger platform and website.
Step 5. Let’s examine and compare the SEO metrics of Telegram channels run by well-known people and look for patterns:
Igor Rudnik: URL Rating — 26 — full statistics
Devaka: URL Rating — 33 — full statistics
Mash: an incredibly high URL Rating of 75 — full statistics
As for indexing, Google Search Console also detects these links:
Conclusion: buy backlinks from Telegram channels for SEO purposes. The more authoritative the channel, the higher its URL Rating—and the more link equity and value its backlinks can provide 🔝
