Mini Case Study: Using Backlinks from Top-Ranking Forums to Promote an Article
Hi everyone. I’d like to share another interesting observation I’ve made. I don’t consider this ordinary crowd marketing — I call it “crowd marketing from the TOP.” I don’t remember where I first heard the term, but I think it describes the method well. So, what was the experiment about?
As usual, I collected the semantics for an article about Dwayne Johnson, prepared a content brief, and sent it to a copywriter, who then wrote the text. The article was indexed, after which I checked its rankings. The semantics and the article focused on what the wrestler looked like when he was young and during childhood, as well as his biography and early years. The entire pool of queries remained around positions 30–50 and showed no signs of improvement even after a month.
Then I did the following: I took the primary query, “Dwayne Johnson when he was young,” and reviewed the top search results for it. I only considered forums. If there are no forums in the results, you can add the word “forum” to your primary keyword. Over seven days, I established a presence on seven forums and placed crowd links. But these weren’t just any links — they were carefully prepared, high-quality placements.
I had to register two accounts on each forum, participate in the discussion, and publish around five messages from each account. I shared links to other resources and added photos, emojis, and YouTube videos to the threads. Only after that did I gradually steer the conversation toward a link to the website I was promoting. It was difficult, time-consuming, and tedious work, especially because these were active forums similar to Kinopoisk, with real users and moderators.
As a result, I effectively filled the top search results for my target query with links to my article. And do you know what happened seven days later? All the queries moved into the TOP 3–5, as shown in the image. I applied the same approach to articles about other public figures, and it worked there as well — sometimes more effectively, sometimes less. Try it yourself. Take your keyword, enter it into Google together with the word “forum,” place links on 5–10 top-ranking websites, record the initial rankings, and monitor the changes.
It doesn’t matter whether the link is dofollow or nofollow. You can even leave an unlinked mention. The main value is that these websites rank at the top for your target query. The more top-ranking websites that mention your resource, the stronger the potential signal to search engines that they should reassess its rankings. Top websites link to your content, trust it, and recommend it.
The harder a link is to obtain, the more valuable it may be. Based on my experience, these links are just as effective as article links purchased through Miralinks for 400–600 rubles. I’ll go even further: buying a link through Miralinks is easy, while earning one from a top-ranking thread on Kinopoisk is much more difficult. If you hire someone to handle this type of crowd marketing, one backlink will cost around 500 rubles. Alternatively, you can try doing it yourself.
Thank you all for your attention.
