How would I distribute 100 backlinks to a new website over, say, three months?

Let’s say I’m launching a new website today and have a brand-new domain with absolutely no backlink history. Next, I set myself the task of securing the first 100 backlinks. What would I focus on? The distribution would vary completely depending on the niche, geographical target and level of competition – I think that’s obvious and logical, but if we take an average project, my strategy would look something like this.

  1. The first 20–30 links and laying the foundations

At the start, I wouldn’t rush into using expensive PBNs or guest posts at all – first, I want some basic backlink history to build up around the new domain:

🟪 Submissions
🟪 Profiles
🟪 Social media platforms
🟪 Web 2.0
🟪 Directories
🟪 Niche platforms
🟪 Brand mentions
🟪 URL links

Roughly speaking, I’d allocate 25 out of 100 links to this foundation; most of them aren’t expected to boost my rankings—I don’t expect that from them at all. The aim here is different: to create a healthy environment for the domain and enable me to continue working calmly with stronger links.

  1. Another 20–25 – forums/comments and UGC

I love forum links precisely because of their variety; if you do them properly, you end up with a whole range of different platforms:

🟪 forums
🟪 comments
🟪 discussions
🟪 old threads
🟪 the same profiles
🟪 themed communities
🟪 Q&As

I wouldn’t put all 25 links to the homepage, though. I’d spread them out roughly like this:

👉 some to the homepage
👉 some to categories
👉 some to blog posts
👉 some to commercial pages.

The same goes for anchor text. You shouldn’t use:

👉 buy a laptop
👉 order a kitchen chair
👉 buy a cheap petrol generator

For the first 100 links, I’d have a whole load of:

👉 brand names
👉 bare URLs
👉 website titles
👉 natural phrases
👉 long anchor texts

  1. 20–30 links from PBNs

And this is where I start to specifically boost the URLs I need. Let’s say I have 5 commercial pages. I won’t necessarily distribute them as 5 pages across 5 PBNs, equating to 25 links. First, I’ll look at the SERP. One page might only need a relatively small boost, whilst another is competing with sites where each URL has 100–200 referring domains pointing to it. So it makes sense to allocate more resources to that one. Therefore, my hypothetical 25 PBNs might be distributed as follows:

🟢 homepage – 5 links
🟢 page 1 – 3 links
🟢 page 2 – 8 links
🟢 page 3 – 2 links
🟢 article – 4 links
🟢 category – 3 links

  1. Another 10–15 – good link placements / guest posts / outreach

At this stage, I’d hand-pick and look for pages that already have:

🟢 keywords
🟢 traffic
🟢 backlinks
🟢 age
🟢 internal weight

  1. I wouldn’t plan the remaining 10–15 links in advance at all

I’d deliberately leave part of the budget free. Why? Because in a few months’ time I’ll already have the data and I’ll be able to see:

🟢 which pages have received impressions
🟢 which have stalled in the top 30
🟢 which have made it into the top 10
🟢 where Google simply refuses to rank me
🟢 where unexpected semantic themes have emerged

And that’s when the final 10–15 strong backlinks can be directed not to where I’d planned three months ago, but to where they’re most needed right now. These could include main links, cross-links and so on. As a result, my hypothetical first 100 links might look something like this for a new website over 90 days:

🔷 25% – foundational links/submissions/profiles/Web 2.0/brand mentions
🔷 20–25% – forums/comments and other UGC
🔷 20–30% – PBNs
🔷 10–15% – link inserts/guest posts/outreach
🔷 10–15% – main links/cross-links and a reserve for pages that show potential.

So, how many and what sort of links should I build for a new site?) And I don’t have a one-size-fits-all answer like – buy 30 PBNs, 20 forum posts and everything will be fine. You need to look at the actual situation: the target audience, the topic, the competitors, and how much they’ve invested in backlinks. For one project, that’s $300–500 a month; for the second, $1,000–2,000; and for the third, even $5,000 might be a bit much.

Hugs to everyone 🫂
