How I Achieved TOP 1–5 Rankings for People-Related Search Queries
I want to share the results of my work and explain how I achieved TOP 1–5 rankings for direct search queries about people from the sports and fitness industry. I published more than 40 articles, which reached top positions in Yandex after six months.
Most of the competition came not from other biographical articles but from the public figures’ own social media profiles — and competing with them is much more difficult. It helps when a public figure is active on only one social network.
I often have to compete for a place in Yandex’s TOP 5 with the same person’s profiles on VKontakte, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. In such cases, fifth place in the search results may be the best position you can achieve). However, in many cases, the biographical articles outranked the people’s personal accounts thanks to strong user engagement and behavioral signals.

The final slide shows that 79 out of 87 queries rank in the TOP 10, while 61 rank in the TOP 5. In other words, more than 65% of all queries are in the TOP 5, which I consider a pretty good result). On average, each primary keyword targeted by an article receives between 500 and 10,000 searches per month according to Yandex Wordstat.
