The Power Of Taking a Break

Someone asked me in the comments how I unwind, where I find the energy to work, and what I do to keep myself from completely losing my mind. I don’t think I’m going to tell you anything new.

Staying grounded is extremely important. Seriously, otherwise, what’s the point of any of this? Lately, I’ve become less rational, even though I’d been the opposite for about eight years straight. I’d even say I’ve become more irrational. Basically, I’m giving more weight to emotions. Not completely, but I’m trying to follow Jim Carrey’s principle from the movie “Yes Man.” If someone suggests going somewhere or doing something, I say yes and go for it.

If you take the entire year and break it down day by day, I don’t experience any major burnout. I have enough motivation. Honestly, I have no fucking idea where it comes from, but it’s there. I always think back to the meat-processing plant in Poland in 2015, and that immediately puts things into perspective. Twenty-one consecutive 12-hour shifts. I didn’t see daylight for three weeks. It was dark when I went to work and already dark again when I left the factory.

It’s important to reward yourself for your work. I didn’t do that for most of my life. I kept putting life off until later, as people usually do, but things are different now. They have been for about a year. I was technically living some kind of life before, but the quality of it was extremely low, mainly because of problems with my nervous system. Yes, I’ve been undergoing active psychotherapy with medication for nine years, since the end of 2017. I’ve never written about this before, but here I am doing it now) There have been some very difficult periods in my life, but I’m not ready to honestly describe all of them here yet. Just thinking about them made me feel like shit)

I started therapy back when it wasn’t nearly as common. I’d say that in Sumy, people thought it was fucking crazy) A lot of people openly asked me why I went there, told me it was bullshit, asked why I couldn’t handle things on my own, whether I was crazy, and all that. I’ve even spent time in clinics 🙂 Ohhhhh…

What personally helps me unwind? I do a bit of sports: I play a lot of padel and slightly less table tennis. Getting together with friends, drinking kombucha, and talking complete bullshit over a hookah is a must. I have incredible friends and an amazing crew. Some of them are subscribed to the channel and read it, so here’s a shout-out to them. I also love getting out of the city and staying at a house with a swimming pool. I’ve already opened this year’s swimming season.

Putting my foot down and accelerating is a real thrill for me. Camping season is also about to begin: heading out of the city to a river, lighting a fire, grilling meat, lying in a hammock, and looking up at the sky. I was given a tent, a sleeping bag, and camping chairs, so I’m going to test all of it. Just simple, down-to-earth things.

I also love being able to give other people emotions, gifts, and things like that. It brings me more pleasure than buying something for myself. That’s my little fetish. After all of this, I’m ready to dive back into the work chats. That’s pretty much it)

What do you do to unwind??? 👇👇👇
