I’ve been reviewing many websites on different link marketplaces and noticed something interesting. Some websites have a very high Ahrefs DR that does not correlate strongly with their CheckTrust score, Majestic TF, or MOZ DA.
From my own experience, I know that increasing a website’s DR to 70+ is extremely difficult, regardless of how many backlinks you build. Some major media websites have 40,000–50,000 backlinks, including links from top-tier media partners, yet their DR is lower. On one marketplace, I came across fortstroi.com.ua, which has a DR of 73.
Its authority metrics from other services are significantly lower, as you can see here: http://joxi.ru/12MP3QKtwee1Bm. They range from 25 to 30, but the website has a huge number of backlinks—not referring domains, but actual backlinks: around 2 million.
After taking a closer look at the backlink profile, I noticed something else: the website has links from EDU and GOV websites that are not visually displayed on the pages but are present in the source code. Here is an example of the text: http://joxi.ru/YmEP6ketBNNaPr. It is not visible on the website itself: http://joxi.ru/Dr8JxneTJQQEL2, but it is present in the code: http://joxi.ru/V2VP8ekt899ebr.
My assumption is that these are rented links—it certainly looks that way. But why are they visually hidden, and how can someone obtain links from so many government websites at once? That should be extremely expensive. In addition, this website with a DR of 73 sells backlinks from its pages for next to nothing, which does not seem profitable. I can see that it has many backlinks from automated link-building campaigns, submissions, and similar sources, but the question remains: a DR of 70+ from only 1,800 referring domains?
