I want to test some new link-building methods for Motozilla, namely homepage backlinks, 301 redirects, and sitewide links.
I found a domain that perfectly matches the GEO and niche. It used to host an online store selling motorcycle parts and related equipment. It also has a decent backlink profile with some valuable paid links. Ahrefs currently shows only 30 referring domains, but the Pro plan reveals that there are actually around 150. Ahrefs has stopped displaying some of the backlinks.
What would be the most effective way to benefit from this domain? What should I do step by step?
Stage 1
Restore all the content from the Wayback Machine, relaunch the website, install a CMS, and recover the old URLs that have backlinks pointing to them.
Alternatively, I could create a new motorcycle-focused content site on this domain and then redirect the old URLs to relevant new pages to transfer their link equity.
Stage 2
What should I do with the website afterward? Add a sitewide link, place a backlink only on the homepage, or set up a 301 redirect immediately?
Where should the links or redirects lead: to the homepage, the motorcycle parts category, or the most relevant corresponding pages? For example, redirect a page about motorcycle helmets to the motorcycle helmets category.
Please share the strategies you use and which approach has delivered the best results for you. I would appreciate your advice 👇
