I Killed Two of My Profitable Websites With Backlinks

I killed these two websites with sitewide backlinks and anchor text.
Patient No. 1. GEO: Brazil, single-brand website. I worked on it for an entire year and invested a lot of time and money. The website was generating around $700–$1,000 per month. I pushed it into the top 3, but I wanted faster results. As a result, it was hit with a penalty and dropped to zero.
Patient No. 2. I worked on it for six months. GEO: Brazil, slot website. It was generating around $500 per month. I added sitewide backlinks to this one as well, and the website also dropped to zero.
What’s the takeaway? For me, this was a humbling lesson—a reminder of what happens when you lose your footing and start pushing things too far 🙂
1) Be more careful with sitewide backlinks.
2) Be more careful with anchor text.
3) Never chase quick results. It’s better to wait longer and get a more predictable outcome.
What I’m going to do:
1) Removed the backlinks—already done.
2) I’ll wait until the websites finish declining and then monitor them for another month.
3) I’ll try moving them to new domains.
Wishing everyone unanchored backlinks and top rankings :)))
