What did I do? I bought banner advertising on a website with primarily female traffic and placed direct links to my online store. I purchased 300,000 impressions over two weeks.
My logic was that users would click the banner, land on an internal page, and generate positive behavioral signals, such as greater browsing depth and longer session duration. I also expected the referral traffic itself to positively affect organic rankings. The entire experiment cost me $200.
What was the result? The ads received impressions and clicks, but my rankings didn’t improve. Perhaps 20–30 visitors per day wasn’t enough, or user engagement was too low. Whatever the reason, the result was zero. I’ll keep building backlinks 🙂
